3 Data-Driven Recruitment Tools for a Well-Rounded Team

When your team’s personal dynamics are in sync, clients get a better overall experience. So when you’re hiring to expand your team, you have to consider more than just their numbers.

And when it comes to evaluating candidates based on their personalities, gut instinct will only get you so far.

That’s where data-driven tools like DiSC Profile, CliftonStrengths, and Enneagram Personality Test come in. They help take the guesswork out of hiring so you can more easily determine the best fit.

1. DiSC Profile

How it works:

DiSC is a collaborative personality assessment tool designed to increase communication and productivity. DiSC begins with a simple personality survey that assigns you to one of four personality types (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness). If you have your agents take the test, you can then use the results to shape collaboration and teamwork strategies among your agents.

Benefits:

DiSC will give you a great sense of how your team communicates. When everyone truly understands each other’s personalities and work styles, there’s less likely to be friction.

You can also use the results to better identify what characteristics to look for in new hires. You may find, for instance, that all of your current team members were assigned to the same personality type, which doesn’t make for a balanced group. Moving forward, you can concentrate on finding a match for one of the other personality types.

Nicole Solari, founder of Level Up Realty, is a huge proponent of using data to drive hiring — specifically through DiSQ.

“I used to try to hire a bunch of versions of me, but I had a lot of turnover,” says Nicole. “So I realized I needed to think bigger: Where did I want to go, and what kind of people were going to take me there? Now we always incorporate the DiSQ profile into our hiring process.”

2. CliftonStrengths

How it works:

CliftonStrengths is a simple survey designed to gauge your natural talents. After taking the quiz, you’ll be given your “talent DNA”: a unique report explaining your results.

If you have your agents take the test, you will receive an analysis of each agent that outlines their talents and ways they can maximize their potential. It also identifies potential blind spots they might have.

Benefits:

CliftonStrengths is framed around building people up and inspiring them to leverage their specific strengths. Boost your agents’ confidence by having them take the assessment, then celebrating them for what they do best.

You need to fully understand your team’s strengths (and weaknesses) before you can leverage them. And if you find your existing team members are lacking a skill you’d like to see represented, you can hire new talent to fill that gap.

“A lot of people are looking for that unicorn who can do everything, and sometimes we’re lucky enough to find them,” says Sunny Magner, customer success manager at Side. “But other times you really have to be strategic about how you make those hiring decisions to make sure you’re leveraging everybody’s strengths accordingly.”

3. Enneagram Personality Test

How it works:

The Enneagram Personality Test is a short survey that helps you identify how you manage your emotions. It sorts you into one of nine dominant personality types: Reformer, Helper, Achiever, Individualist, Investigator, Loyalist, Enthusiast, Challenger, and Peacemaker.

You can then answer follow-up questions to refine your understanding of your results. The test also explains the relationship between your dominant personality type and other secondary types you exhibit.

Benefits:

If your agents take the test, you will be able to identify each team member’s unique gifts — and make the most of them. The results also help explain why agents with different personality types interact in certain ways.

“It’s important to have clarity around what you’re looking for and what personality types are going to add and balance your team,” says Lamisse Droubi, founder of Generation Real Estate. “My team has such a dynamic connection that there’s some fear we could throw things off kilter by adding someone new, so we are being very deliberate.”

The Enneagram types give you and your team members a shared language to talk about personality differences and quirks. And when you hire a new agent, you can take their Enneagram type into consideration for a more efficient onboarding process.

Embrace what makes your team unique

These leading personality-based assessments can help you make clear and strategic choices when hiring, onboarding, and developing your team. The better your team works together, the faster your business will grow.
